Model T Chassis
Welcome to t-ford.co.uk! An original Model T Chassis was considered by some to be an excellent piece in the history of automobiles. The chassis were included in the later models of the T Ford so that trucks could be built according to the requirements. Later Ford also built some truck bodies which were apt for this chassis and this went on to be known as the Model TT.
The earlier Model T Chassis designs had a radiator made of brass and also headlights. It was only in the year 1911 that the front doors were added to the car. It was around 1915 that the models which were introduced were closed cars, trucks, sedans and even coupes. The earlier headlights were brass lamps which were later replaced by electrical lights. There were many small changes that were introduced in the chassis or the framework of the Model T but one must remember that it was very difficult to introduce major changes in it.
Why the Model T chassis is so great
All in all when it comes to Model T Chassis, there were about 9 different body types but all with the same chassis and most with the same Model T engine! The cars produced between 1915 and 1925 were mainly black and this was so because this colour dried easily and was also cheaper. Most chassis of the model were made of 1/8 inch steel and had side rails reinforcing plates which were riveted inside the channel. Though, a little known fact is that there were more changes in the first 2500 cars in terms of the frame than was generally apparent. You can see a complete Model T Ford history in that section of our site, with details of how the first cars came about and their progress through the years.
