Model T Pickup

The first of the cars which could be called as Model T Pickup were seen rolling out of the Ford factories in the year 1915. This was when they introduced the closed cars and the Model T chassis was made available to facilitate the trucks to be built also. The Ford truck bodies later came to be known as the Model TT.

To make the T Ford model appealing to the farmers, it was aptly publicized and advertised also. The farmers till then added the moveable cargo bed to the back of the car. Approximately in the year 1918, Ford also introduced a Runabout which had a pickup body. This Model T Pickup came with slight modifications to the basic T body. There was a cargo bed added at the rear of the body and an adjustable tailgate was also added. This model sold then for a price of $281.

How the Model T Pickup came about

It is very important to remember that although Model T was always used for commercial purpose, it was only when Ford introduced the 1 ton truck chassis that it introduced the first Model T Pickup. The new model introduced was nothing but the original chassis with a stronger frame and also had a wheel base which was 2 feet long, a rear suspension which was much stiffer and rear wheels which were artillery type and were made up of solid rubber.
